In Conversation with Mihika Kothari Javeri Co-founder of Amaar Jewels on balancing heritage with innovation

Born into a family with a long-standing legacy in the diamond industry, Mihika Kothari Javeri has always been surrounded by the artistry of fine jewellery. With Amaar Jewels, she is building on that heritage while championing a modern vision of luxury, one rooted in timeless design, exceptional craftsmanship, and lab-grown diamonds.

Speaking to Madame Arabia, Javeri reflects on the experiences that shaped her journey, explaining, "I wanted to offer modern women a new kind of luxury, beautifully crafted jewellery that is timeless, consciously made, and never compromises on quality, design, or craftsmanship."

    Amaar Jewels

Growing up in a family deeply rooted in the diamond industry, what early experiences shaped your relationship with fine jewellery, and how did those memories eventually inspire you to create Amaar Jewels?

Growing up in a family deeply rooted in the diamond industry, I developed an appreciation for jewellery long before I understood its commercial value. I was drawn to the beauty of diamonds, the joy of dressing up, and the way a piece of jewellery can become part of someone's story. As I grew older, I gained a deeper understanding of what goes into creating truly exceptional jewellery - from the discipline of selecting remarkable stones to the artistry of craftsmanship and the emotional significance each piece can hold.

Those experiences naturally led me to create Amaar Jewels. My vision was to offer modern women a new kind of luxury: beautifully crafted jewellery that is timeless, consciously made, and never compromises on quality, design, or craftsmanship. I wanted to honour the traditions I grew up with while embracing a more thoughtful and contemporary approach to fine jewellery.

After building a successful career in luxury jewellery across global markets and later taking time away to raise your family, what motivated you to return to the industry, and why did you feel it was the right moment to launch Amaar Jewels?

I've always been passionate about my career and driven by the excitement of building something meaningful. Becoming a mother, however, gave me a different perspective. It encouraged me to slow down and be fully present during those early years with my children, something I'm incredibly grateful I was able to do. While I always knew I wanted to return to work, I wanted to do it when the time felt right, both personally and professionally.

As I began thinking about my next chapter, I could see the jewellery industry evolving. There was a growing curiosity around lab-grown diamonds and a noticeable shift towards more conscious purchasing decisions. People were asking more questions, looking for greater transparency and becoming increasingly open to new ways of experiencing luxury.

That resonated with me personally as well. With three young children, a busy schedule and frequent travel, I found myself naturally drawn to lab-grown diamonds without wanting to compromise on beauty, quality or craftsmanship. That personal experience, combined with the changing conversation within the industry, gave me the confidence that this was the right time to create Amaar Jewels.

Amaar Jewels is helping redefine luxury through lab-grown diamonds. What do you think still needs to change in the perception of lab-grown diamonds, particularly within the high jewellery market?

I think it's completely natural for people to compare lab-grown and natural diamonds and have questions and doubts - any new category goes through that phase. What will really change perceptions over time is greater awareness, education and transparency.

The more people understand what a lab-grown diamond actually is - that it has the same chemical, physical and optical properties as a natural diamond, and is certified to the same standards - the more confident they'll feel in making an informed choice. At Amaar Jewels, every piece is certified, and we're always happy to answer questions because we believe transparency builds trust.

Ultimately, I hope lab-grown diamonds come to be appreciated on their own merits rather than constantly compared to natural diamonds. They represent a different expression of luxury, one that offers exceptional beauty, craftsmanship and creativity while giving today's consumer another meaningful way to experience fine jewellery.

Sustainability is central to Amaar Jewels, but so is exceptional craftsmanship and bold design. How do you ensure that innovation, ethical responsibility, and luxury coexist without compromising the exclusivity of the brand?

To me, sustainability should enhance luxury, never define it. Our clients choose Amaar because they fall in love with the design, craftsmanship and experience first. The responsible sourcing simply gives them greater confidence in their choice. We never compromise on quality, materials or artistry. True exclusivity isn't created through scarcity alone, it's created through exceptional design, meticulous craftsmanship and meaningful personal connections.

Beyond creating beautiful jewellery, Amaar offers highly personalized services—from private home appointments to its unique gifting experience. Why was it important for you to make the client journey as bespoke as the jewellery itself?

For me, jewellery has always been about so much more than the final piece - it's about the memories and emotions attached to it. Whether it's a gift to celebrate a milestone, mark a new chapter, or simply show someone they're loved, jewellery becomes part of a person's story. I wanted the experience of choosing or gifting it to feel just as meaningful.

I've always loved the journey of discovering a piece - trying on different styles, taking your time, and waiting for that moment when something just feels like you. That sense of anticipation and connection is something I wanted to bring to Amaar, which is why we place so much importance on our private home appointments. They allow our clients to enjoy a relaxed, personal experience where they can explore pieces in the comfort of their own space, without feeling rushed.

The same thinking inspired our gifting experience. Rather than simply giving someone a piece of jewellery, our clients can gift them the experience of choosing it themselves through a private home appointment. It transforms the gift into a shared memory, one that's just as special for the person giving it as it is for the person receiving it. To me, those moments are what make jewellery truly meaningful, and I'm grateful that Amaar gets to be a small part of them.

With Amaar expanding internationally across markets including India and Australia, how do you balance creating timeless pieces that appeal globally while responding to the unique preferences of clients in different regions?

I've realised that while personal style may vary from one market to another, the desire for beautiful, well-crafted jewellery is universal. Whether we're working with clients in India, Australia or elsewhere, they all want pieces that feel timeless and meaningful.

That said, we do pay close attention to how our clients wear jewellery, the occasions they're shopping for and what feels most relevant to them. Those insights help us shape the capsule collections for different regions and the experience we offer, without ever losing the essence of Amaar. For me, it's about staying true to who we are while making sure our clients, wherever they are, feel understood.

How do you see the future of lab-grown diamonds evolving over the next decade, and what role do you believe they will play in shaping the future of luxury jewellery?

I think we'll see lab-grown diamonds become a integral part of the fine jewellery industry in its own rite. As awareness continues to grow, people will make decisions based on what feels right for them, rather than seeing lab-grown and natural diamonds as something that has to be compared.

I also think we'll see the focus shift towards what has always mattered most in fine jewellery, beautiful design, exceptional craftsmanship and the meaning behind each piece. At the end of the day, people connect with jewellery because of how it makes them feel, and I don't think that will ever change.

Looking ahead, what is your long-term vision for Amaar Jewels, and what legacy do you hope to leave, not only in the world of fine jewellery, but in shaping a more conscious future for luxury?

My vision for Amaar has always been to build a brand that people trust and return to for life's most meaningful moments. I want us to be known for creating beautiful jewellery that never asks a client to compromise, whether that's on craftsmanship, design or their values.

If, over time, we've helped more people see that luxury can also be thoughtful and conscious, then I'd consider that a wonderful legacy. More than anything, I hope Amaar becomes a brand that's passed down not just through its jewellery, but through the memories and stories attached to each piece.
