Balqees Fathi Joins the Grammy Conversations
Our previous cover star Balqees Fathi has joined the Recording Academy’s 2026 New Member Class, marking a new milestone in the Emirati singer’s international career.
The new membership makes Balqees a voting member of the academy, allowing her to contribute to the Grammys Awards process. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to use my voice, contribute to the @grammys Awards process, and be part of the conversations that help move our industry forward,” the singer wrote on her Instagram.

Born into a musical family, Balqees has bridged traditional Khaleeji sounds with modern genres. Her ability to sing opera songs in various languages makes her a truly special performer.
After making her debut in 2013 with the album Majnoun, Balqees had grown to be one of the most prominent musical figures in the UAE. When featured in our cover story in December 2025, Balqees reflected on the choices that shaped her career and using music as a medium to unite people. Her addition into the academy furthers her purpose of using music as a tool to stir conversations and claim global spaces.
As a singer, entrepreneur, and leading cultural voice in the UAE, her career is defined by her versatility. With her new role at the Recording Academy, she joins the international collective of creators leading global music conversations.
