A New Shade of Luck: Van Cleef & Arpels Reimagines the Alhambra in Pink

Few jewellery motifs are instantly recognisable as Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra. First introduced in 1968 and inspired by the four-leaf clover, the design has become one of the Maison’s most enduring symbols of luck, continuously reimagined through different stones, materials and finishes over the decades.

Now the Alhambra enters a new chapter with the introduction of a vibrant pink enamel, bringing a fresh burst of colour to the iconic collection. The new shade appears across five Vintage Alhambra and Magic Alhambra creations, including necklaces, a pendant, bracelet and earrings, paired with yellow gold and the Maison’s signature beaded contours.

The rich translucent pink was developed over several years in Van Cleef & Arpels workshop using a technique inspired by the historic “gold ruby” process. Rather than relying on traditional pigments, fine particles of gold are used to create the colour, giving the enamel its distinctive depth and luminosity. Tiny bubbles within the material add further character, while its curved surface helps catch and reflect the light.

The introduction of enamel also reflects the Maison’s longstanding dedication to craftsmanship. Van Cleef & Arpels currently masters more than 15 enamelling techniques within its workshops, continuing to preserve traditional métiers d’art while exploring new ways to bring its design to life.

More than five decades after the first Alhambra creation appeared, the new pink pieces prove that even the most iconic designs can continue to evolve. Familiar yet distinctly fresh, they bring a playful new energy to a symbol that has long been associated with luck, elegance and the enduring world of Van Cleef & Arpels.
