Animals have long held a special space in the world of Cartier. Now, Into the Wild brings the Maison’s extraordinary jewellery fauna into focus, celebrating the creatures, craftsmanship and precious stones that have shaped this distinctive part of its identity for more than a century. 

From birds and insects to reptiles, big cats and creatures of the savannah, Cartier has continually looked to the natural world for inspiration. Among them, none is more closely associated with the Maison than the Panthere, which first appeared in three-dimensional sculptural form in 1948 and has since become one of Cartier’s most recognisable signatures. 

Yet the story extends far beyond the panther. Tiger, parrot, carp, crocodile and rhinoceros heads are transformed into sculptural rings, each given its own character through unexpected combinations of colour and precious materials. Emerald, sapphires, aquamarines, onyx and diamond recreate everything from watchful eyes to scale and fur, while contrasting stones bring each creature vividly to life. 

The craftsmanship becomes particularly striking in Cartier’s tiger and crocodile bracelets and necklaces. Their sculptural heads remain close to the anatomy of the animals they depict, while articulated bodies introduce a more abstract interpretation. The crocodile combines diamonds, onyx and Vivid green chrysoprase, while the tiger moves through shades of blue with dumortierite quartz, sapphires, aquamarine and chalcedony. 

At the heart of the story remains the Panthere de Cartier. Appearing across bracelets, earrings, necklaces and a jewellery watch, the feline is continually reimagined while retaining the strength and character that have made it synonymous with the Maison. The jewellery watch, created atCartier’s Maison des Metiers d’Art in La Chaux-de-Fonds, bring together the work of designer, gem-setter and lacquerer, with onyx, tsavorite garnet and diamonds creating its styled feline portrait. 

With Into the Wild, Cartier’s animals are not simply decorative motifs. Each becomes a character in its own right, somewhere between nature and imagination, brought to life through the Maison’s exceptional savoir-faire.
