Queen Letizia of Spain supports local talent during her visit to Egypt
Her Majesty Queen Letizia of Spain joined her husband for a 4-day state visit to Egypt upon the invitation of the Egyptian President. On the second day of the visit, she toured the Cultural Centre of the Sultan Foundation in Cairo. Accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Yomna Elbahar, the Queen inaugurated a photographic exhibition by Egyptian photographer Mohamed Mahdy and Spanish photographer Laura Silleras on the City of the Dead.
Following the exhibition, Queen Letizia attended a percussion performance by a group of young beneficiaries of the Foundation’s projects. She also visited the jewellery and leather workshops at the Sultan Foundation Cultural Centre. The visit concluded with a tour of the mausoleum of Sultan Qaitbey, restored by the Foundation, whose mission is to facilitate access to culture for disadvantaged communities in Cairo.
Queen Letizia champions Egyptian talent
Her Majesty Queen Letizia is a global fashion icon, known for her impeccable taste and style, and she never fails to impress. So far, her outfits for the visit have been perfectly put together, event-appropriate yet stylish at the same time. Her previous two looks were a celebration of Spanish artistry and craftsmanship, while on Thursday, during her tour at the Cultural Centre of the Sultan Foundation, the Queen surprised everyone by embracing local Egyptian designs.

The Spanish Queen opted for a minimalist, monochromatic look by none other than Egyptian designer Dina Shaker, who is renowned for reimagining classic heritage codes into neo-Egyptian cultural narratives. She wore a linen safari jacket paired with white trousers and gold earrings from Mishka, an artisanal space in Cairo.
MADAME Arabia had the opportunity to speak with Egyptian designer Dina Shaker, who dressed the Queen. “It all started a few weeks ago when I received an email from the office of Her Majesty Queen Letizia of Spain, asking me to share my look book for an upcoming event in Egypt,” she recounted. “At first, I honestly thought it might be a prank. But when I checked the sender, I realised it was truly from the office.”
Ahead of her visit to Egypt, the Queen’s team carried out research into potential local designers to dress Her Majesty, and Dina Shaker made the list
When I asked Dina about her feelings on seeing Her Majesty the Queen of Spain in her designs, she said: “Seeing her wearing it was a moment of pride beyond words. What moved me even more was that Her Majesty herself, from her official Instagram account, posted the images and tagged me.”

“I am profoundly grateful for this honour. Dressing Queen Letizia is not only a personal milestone but also a meaningful step towards placing my brand on a greater international stage,” she shared.
Dina Shaker launched her signature label in 2013, showcasing at leading trade shows in London, Paris, and Tokyo. In 2024, she became the first Egyptian designer to present on Portugal Fashion Week’s main runway with 35 looks, earning international acclaim and media recognition. She is an interior architect turned fashion deconstructionist, reimagining classic heritage codes through Neo-Egyptian cultural narratives.
