With her brand Retori (available on Ounass), Salma Rachid creates a dialogue between lived stories and clothing

Art is a universal language of emotion for Egyptian designer Salma Rachid. And since 2024, her fashion label Retori has been its voice.

Salma, when did you know, “Yes, I have to become a designer”? The process of creating something has always fascinated me. Truly understanding that fashion is more than a collection of garments was the foundation of Retori.

What will the world learn from you? Retori is a brand that conveys depth, communication, and craftsmanship – a concept that unites art forms and connects with people on both an aesthetic and emotional level.

What inspires you in a way that’s unique to you? Deep, honest conversations with artists, creatives, and people who carry wisdom and moments of magic within them.

Three words that describe your style? Fluid. Layered. Alluring. What makes your designs unlike any others? There’s nothing merely decorative – each piece feels personal, almost as if it were meant to find you at a particular moment in time.

From whom have you learned the most about style – and what was the lesson? I’ve learned from people who are effortlessly present. That natural radiance teaches you more than any trend ever could.

What do you hope to achieve in the next three years? To build a community that identifies with Retori – because they understand what the brand stands for.

What was your last idea in the shower? The best ideas come to me in conversations with the people I love. As for my last one – just wait and see!

Retori is available to shop on Ounass.
