Jessica Barakat: Elegance, Emotion, and the Art of Becoming
Junaynah El Guthmy
From personal storytelling to purposeful design, Jessica Issam Barakat shares the journey behind Black Pearl DXB and the mindset that shaped it.
In Dubai, a city defined by its constant motion and quiet confidence, Jessica Issam Barakat moves with intention. Founder of Black Pearl DXB, her world sits at the intersection of fashion, lifestyle, and entrepreneurship where personal stories are transformed into meaningful objects, and creativity is treated as both instinct and discipline.

Black Pearl DXB was never conceived as a business plan. It began, instead, as a gesture. In 2016, searching for a gift she couldn’t find, Barakat decided to create it herself. What followed was the birth of a brand rooted in individuality, one that invites self-expression through charms, customization, and thoughtfully curated experiences. “I felt there was a gap,” she explains. “Something that allowed people to express themselves in a way that felt intentional and personal.”
That sense of intention mirrors her own aesthetic. Barakat gravitates toward elevated minimalism pieces that feel timeless yet playful, refined yet emotional. It’s a balance that defines Black Pearl DXB: curated but accessible, elegant without being distant. Each creation carries a quiet narrative, designed to feel personal rather than performative.
For Barakat, leadership has been as much an internal journey as a professional one. One of her most pivotal moments came not from external success, but from confronting her own mindset. “I realized my biggest limitation was the boundaries I placed on myself,” she reflects. Questioning those self-imposed limits changed everything the way she made decisions, the confidence with which she led, and the scale of what she believed was possible. “It wasn’t about becoming someone new,” she says, “but allowing myself to fully step into who I already was.”

Authenticity, intention, and emotional connection are the themes Barakat returns to time and again whether she’s designing, creating content, or sharing her entrepreneurial journey. She believes in transparency, in showing both the highs and the challenges, and in sharing knowledge that is often withheld. “Information is powerful,” she notes. “It can inspire, create impact, and positively influence a community.”
Growth, however, brings its own challenges. As Black Pearl DXB expanded, Barakat faced the delicate task of scaling without losing the brand’s soul. Rather than resisting change, she chose reflection. Stepping back allowed her to refine systems, delegate with clarity, and focus on vision over execution. “It helped me grow not just as a founder,” she says, “but as a leader someone who trusts others while staying deeply connected to the core.”

Dubai, the city she was born and raised in, is an ever-present influence. Growing up surrounded by cultures, contrasts, and constant evolution shaped her creative lens. “Dubai moves forward with confidence while staying connected to its roots,” she reflects. That dialogue between past and present heritage and innovation runs through her aesthetic and storytelling, informing how she curates, designs, and expresses herself.
In a landscape often driven by speed and spectacle, Jessica Barakat’s work offers something quieter, yet deeply resonant. A reminder that creativity doesn’t need to shout to be powerful it simply needs to be honest, intentional, and rooted in emotion.
