Sixty-four years after Grace Kelly first wore it, a golden-yellow Givenchy gown has resurfaced, this time on her granddaughter, Princess Alexandra of Hanover. The floor-length gown, covered in glittering diamonds with a scoop neckline and low-cut back, was originally worn by Princess Grace at the pre-wedding gala ahead of the 1962 marriage of the future King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía of Spain in Athens.

More than six decades later, the dress has had its second moment, worn by Princess Alexandra just days after she announced her engagement to her longtime partner, Ben-Sylvester Strautmann. Sharing the look on Instagram, she captioned it simply: "yellow mood in archival Givenchy," alongside a note that she'd finally gotten the chance to wear her grandmother's dress.

It isn't the first time Alexandra has reached into her family's archive rather than a showroom rack. She has previously worn a vintage Chanel piece that belonged to her mother, Princess Caroline of Monaco, as well as an early-1960s outfit once worn by Grace Kelly herself. For Alexandra, archival dressing isn't a rare occasion look, it's closer to a running thread, a quiet way of carrying her family's style history forward.

There's something fitting about the timing, too: a newly engaged bride-to-be, reaching for a dress tied to another royal celebration from another era, worn by the grandmother whose own wedding remains one of the most photographed in royal history.
