La Prairie’s new Life Matrix Haute Rejuvenation Cream was 10 years in the making and is designed to modulate the skin’s cellular information
In recent years, the wellness industry’s fascination with longevity solutions for a longer, healthier life has exploded, with medical experts making crucial new discoveries about how we can increase our healthspan (time of life living healthily).
More than a trend, this shift in approach has begun to filter into the beauty and skincare realm as prestigious brands look for product solutions that will have the same impact on our skin. One of the leaders in this field is La Prairie, a brand whose extensive research into skin longevity is allowing its newest products to prevail as some of the most ground-breaking in the market.
“If you think of the research behind the product, you could say we started ten years ago, as that was when we were researching some of the elements that go into it,” says Dr Jacqueline Hill, the Global director of strategic innovation and science at La Prairie, as she discusses the brand’s new Life Matrix Haute Rejuvenation Cream. This latest innovation is based on the findings of the brand’s High Longevity science research, an exploration into extending skin longevity, focusing on the initial reason for reduced cellular functionality and, ultimately, skin ageing.
“We were thinking about the root cause of skin losing longevity and what affects the state of the cells most. That’s when we started looking at cellular information, inspired by biology, life sciences, and theoretical physics,” explains Dr Hill, a skincare specialist with over 20 years of experience in formulation, research and development, and whose passion for what she does clearly shines through as she discusses the recent discoveries.

Life Matrix Haute Rejuvenation Cream was the culmination of La Prairie’s research in this area and the first product in what’s being described as a new era for the brand. “That’s how we describe it in the marketing!” Dr Hill laughs, “But yes, I think there is really something there. It’s this idea of tackling the root cause as opposed to signs or processes. I like this idea of a 360 approach, coming in from a different direction with solutions that complement our other products. I think that’s quite powerful.”
The new face cream combines the expertise of Clinique La Prairie, the Swiss longevity clinic, and luxury Swiss skincare brand La Prairie for the first-of-its-kind collaboration that benefits both entities.
“Exchanges that we have with Clinique La Prairie are very exciting because they are really at the forefront of longevity from a holistic point of view,” shares Dr Hill. “But often, there will be an overlap in what happens at a holistic level and of the tissues and the cells in the body. We see parallel mechanisms.”
“I think what we can bring into skincare from the general understanding of longevity is really interesting and we are looking at how you would adapt it to the skin cells,” she adds about the partnership.
So, what does this innovation really mean for ageing? When we grow older, cellular functionality declines, cellular health span shortens, and, in general, ageing itself accelerates. The new cream is designed to modulate the skin’s cellular information, optimising cellular functionality and eventually leading to extended youth longevity. It resets cellular function over time, decreasing ageing signs and enabling cells to behave as a more youthful version of themselves.
“We believe we are working on the root cause of skin losing its longevity – not fixing a consequence of damages but really trying to solve the problem at its heart. That, for me, is one of the most ‘wow’ elements of what we’ve been doing,” says Dr Hill.
Over a period of using the product, skin should become strengthened with an increased collagen content and skin tissue becomes denser. Firmness, elasticity and skin volume should improve.
“I think it’s very complementary to the other products in our collections, and it can be matched in a ritual with other products,” Dr Hill explains. “It should enhance the benefits of our other products because it’s working from a different angle.”
Dr Hill’s journey in cosmetic research and development came from a passion for science that was both fun and meaningful. Her career, beginning with studies in Switzerland and later at Oxford University, has spanned three decades. Most recently, she has overseen the strategic direction of the research and development of many of La Prairie’s iconic skincare products, never hesitant to try the products for herself.

“Yes, I have been using it,” she says of the Life Matrix Haute Rejuvenation Cream, “along with others, as I’m trying new things as well! I’d say there’s more glow, and people have said my skin looks even nicer.”
If the proof is in the results, Dr Hill is definitely a self-proclaimed testament to the success of this cream. “I think it’s worth it, because you will really feel better afterwards, and you’ll feel good about yourself,” she says, noting that a great product is about more than simply aesthetic results. “I think feeling good in your skin helps with self-confidence and how you feel about facing the world – I think it’s more than just cosmetic. It goes beyond that.”
