Loro Piana at Milan design week presenting Studies, Chapter One: On the Plaid

At Milan Design Week 2026, Loro Piana unveils Studies, Chapter I: On the Plaid, hosted at Cortile della Seta, the Maison’s Milan headquarters. Open to the public from April 21st to 26th, 2026, between 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM, the presentation offers a focused exploration of one of the House’s most enduring objects: the plaid.

Since the mid-1980s, plaids have held a foundational place within Loro Piana’s universe, evolving from early finished products into a field of continuous experimentation. In Studies, the object becomes a lens through which material, technique, and process are examined with precision and restraint. Conceived as an evolving framework, the project unfolds in chapters, each dedicated to a specific study of form, function, and craftsmanship.

    Loro Piana-Design Week 2026-Cardo Etoile

For this inaugural chapter, the scenography is conceived as a passage through twenty-four unique plaids, each presented as an individual study. Differentiated by weaving methods, finishes, patterns, and construction techniques, the pieces form a visual index of approaches within a single object. Together, they reveal the breadth of the House’s textile language while maintaining a quiet, disciplined clarity.

The presentation balances finished works with an emphasis on origin. Fibres and yarns, central to Loro Piana’s identity, are placed in dialogue with the processes that transform them. Embroidery, appliqué, handloom weaving, needle punching, patchwork, and screen printing are used not as decoration, but as structural expressions of craft. The plaids are crafted from the Maison’s signature materials, including Vicuña, Baby Cashmere, Cashmere, The Gift of Kings, Loro Piana Royal Lightness, as well as linen and innovative textiles such as Wish wool and Pecora Nera wool.

Historic motifs drawn from the archives reappear throughout the collection, reinterpreted through contemporary compositions that explore variations in colour, texture, and structure. Each piece reflects a distinct articulation of savoir-faire, where material intelligence and technique converge.

Presented in a couture-like approach, every plaid is produced on request, introducing a sense of individuality and measure to the collection. More than an object, the plaid becomes a synthesis of material, territory, and process, an expression of excellence rooted in fibre, craft, and nature.

Loro Piana-Design Week 2026-The Suitcase Stripe Perlage

Alongside the main presentation, Loro Piana Sceneries evokes emblematic landscapes of the Maison’s heritage, beginning with Valsesia, its place of origin in 1924. This extends into mountain environments and seasonal landscapes that reflect the House’s long-standing connection to outdoor life and movement.

Further sections explore the visual language of the Maison, from signature codes such as the Belt motif and Suitcase Stripe to botanical references including the thistle and flax. Paisley is reinterpreted through the Cardo Paisley chapter, while Textured Abstractions closes the journey with a focus on surface, structure, and material experimentation.

Through Studies, Chapter I: On the Plaid, Loro Piana presents not a collection, but a method of looking where craft, material, and time converge into a quiet study of excellence.
