Editor’s picks: The best things to do in the GCC this autumn

From soaking in local design to sourcing rare books and visiting the opera

With the busiest (and most exciting) season of the year in full swing, the editors at MADAME Arabia have rounded up some of the very best things happening across the Gulf.

Whether you're interested in vintage books or seeing local design at Dubai Design Week, there is plenty of things to do in the region to add to your calendars.

    Visit the opera

Dubai Opera’s 2025–2026 season kicks off with Puccini’s La Bohème, presented by the Hungarian State Opera in collaboration with M Premiere. Set in 19th-century Paris, the opera follows Rodolfo and Mimì’s poignant love story against the backdrop of bohemian life, brought to life through Puccini’s timeless arias. This historic staging, directed by Kálmán Nádasdy with sets by Gusztáv Oláh, has been performed nearly 900 times since 1937, and it will be performed in Dubai Opera from the 18th to the 20th of September (various show times).

    See rare books

The Museum of Islamic Art Library in Qatar presents Cures, Remedies, and Recipes: Treasures of MIA Library, a rare book display exploring historical approaches to medicine, healing, and wellness. Featuring Arabic medical texts, English recipe books, French menus, etiquette manuals, and even Beethoven’s ledger, several items are on public view for the first time. Until the 30th of December.

    Dance to Stereophonics

Welsh rock band Stereophonics is bringing its Stadium Anthems Tour to Dubai’s Coca-Cola Arena in October for a night of pure rock energy. The legendary musical group will deliver a powerhouse set of chart-topping hits alongside new tracks from their latest album, Make ’Em Laugh, Make ’Em Cry, Make ’Em Wait. Fans can expect an electrifying performance of classics like Dakota, Maybe Tomorrow, and Local Boy in the Photograph. 29th of October, 8pm.
