Prada’s 2024 holiday collection offers a new twist on elegant dressing

The pieces celebrate the festive act of coming together
Prada’s new limited edition collection, which launches this December, celebrates the festive act of coming together, shared moments of joy and connection that we all cherish over the holiday period. True to form, the Milanese fashion house reimagines the elegance of a festive wardrobe through a contemporary lens with unconventional, unexpected looks designed to be worn for dressing up over the celebratory season. This seasonal collection offers a new expression of dressing, challenging traditional notions of elegance while expanding its possibilities.
Prada proposes that elegance can be interpreted in many different ways. It’s fluid and deeply personal, encouraging the wearer to express their individuality through how they dress. Elegance can be found in classic tailored pieces, like tuxedos and evening gowns, as we well know, but it can also be seen in unexpected juxtapositions: a cotton poplin tuxedo shirt worn as a dress, a shearling-lined parka styled with an opera coat, or a jumpsuit tailored with the precision of formalwear. This interplay between past and present, tradition and modernity, creates a dialogue that redefines what it means to dress up for festive occasions.
The limited edition collection features a series of understated looks, often with unexpected pairings, representing contradicting eras and styles, while always inherently inspired by the house’s long-lived DNA and stylistic codes. Timeless staples like the tailored tuxedo, cashmere coats, and evening dresses anchor the collection, while contemporary twists offer fresh relevance to items from decades past. Additional highlights include tunic dresses worn over flared leggings, mini skirts styled over trousers, and heavily embellished short dresses worn with statement accessories, again paired with flared legging-style pants. An elegant straight-cut skirt is worn with a wool knit jumper, offering a casual twist on dressing up, while colour-clashing pieces make for unexpected looks that are a cause for celebration themselves.
A key highlight of this collection that will undoubtedly make a perfect gift for friends or family is the return of the Prada “Trick”, a whimsical robot toy that first appeared in the house’s 2004 Fall/Winter menswear collection. Twenty years later, the playful Trick character has been giving new life as an accessory, reimagined in various iterations, including on jewellery, as a bag charm, or integrated into an outfit, to add a sense of fun to any ensemble. In this collection, the Trick represents the joy of self-expression and the lighthearted spirit of celebration.
Accessories, as ever, play a pivotal role in the collection. The introduction of a micro Galleria bag offers a playful take on one of the house’s classics, while iconic designs like the Arqué, the Buckle, and the Duet remain enduring symbols of the brand’s craftsmanship and signature pieces that will transcend any season. In addition, a new soft nappa leather bag with pleated detailing and archival-inspired brass accents adds a touch of nostalgia to the collection, taking inspiration from Prada accessories of past years.
As the festive season approaches, this feminine collection is the perfect alternative to mundane occasionwear. Offering an understated approach to dressing up that celebrates individuality. Each piece invites the wearer to explore their personal interpretations of elegance.
