Tiffany & Co. Translates the Spirit of Flight into Its Latest Fine Jewellery Collection
Tiffany & Co. unveils new Bird on a Rock by Tiffany creations, transforming one of the House’s most emblematic motifs into expressive fine and high jewellery designs. The collection draws inspiration from Jean Schlumberger’s original Bird on a Rock brooch from 1965. Under the creative vision of Nathalie Verdeille, Senior Vice President and Chief Artistic Officer of Jewellery and High Jewellery, the newest collection features figural birds embellished with details inspired by archival creations exploring the motif through distinct interpretations. Two abstract collections distil the concept of flight to its essence: Wings, a fine jewellery expression, and Feathers, a new high jewellery suite.

Bird on a Rock has remained a symbol of joy, optimism, and possibility for more than half a century. Embodying the spirit of imagination and adventure, the designs showcase Tiffany & Co.’s inventive artistry and exceptional craft.
Schlumberger’s original Bird on a Rock brooch was inspired by a yellow cockatoo he encountered during his travels across Asia and the Caribbean. One of the first brooches featured a yellow and white diamond bird perched atop a cabochon lapis lazuli and quickly became one of the designer’s most celebrated creations. Over the decades, the Bird on a Rock has evolved into an enduring emblem of the House, most famously serving as the setting for the legendary Tiffany Diamond in 1995.

The latest collection introduces Bird on a Rock by Tiffany Wings designs, an abstract interpretation inspired by the symbolic power of flight. The Wings creations feature alternating wings in 18k gold and platinum, with each wing individually crafted and defined by three feathers that nestle seamlessly into the neighbouring wing. A narrow necklace, ring, drop earrings, articulated bracelet, pendant, and three metal-only rings in 18k yellow or rose gold and platinum make up the collection.

Beyond the fine jewellery pieces, the new Bird on a Rock Feathers high jewellery designs transform the motif into breathtaking pieces that evoke intricate compositions of diamond feathers. Through sculptural compositions of platinum, 18k gold, and diamonds, these designs interpret the bird’s collar plumage, balancing abstraction and naturalism in a distinctly contemporary manner. The collection was developed over a span of nearly three years, with each creation representing the softness and fluidity of feathers in precious materials.

Together the collection showcases the enduring legacy of both Tiffany & Co.’s craftsmanship and Jean Schlumberger’s vision. Capturing the spirit of optimism, imagination and freedom that has defined Bird on a Rock for more than 60 years, whether rendered through a sculptural bird poised in motion or through abstract wings, each piece is distinctly Tiffany.
The new Bird on a Rock pieces will be available starting September 1 in select Tiffany & Co. stores.
