The kohl served various purposes across different cultures, from protection against the desert sun to warding off the “evil eye"; it was the first true cosmetic that transcended gender and class.

Brigitte Bardot

The ultimate French style ambassador was famous for her “cat eye”. She paired a winged kohl liner with tousled blond hair and pale nude lips, defining Parisian chic during the 1950s and 1960s.
